LPNM Letter to UNSMIL on the Crimes Committed in Tahruna

Mr. Bernardino Leon Gross
Special Representative and Head of UN Support Mission in Libya

Dear Sir,

We feel it necessary to put you before your historic responsibility with respect to the crimes committed in the Tarhuna region on 07.08.2015, which fall within the internationally punishable crimes and constitute a crime against humanity under Articles 7 and 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. In this incident a crime of willful collective murder was committed against the al-Kreid family, namely, the father Ibrahim al-kreid; his sons Khaled, Fathi and Adel, in addition to the killing of Faraj Ahmed Mohammed Huwaidi and Haitham Hussein al-Silla; while wounding Attia Zayed al-Silla.

The armed militia of the so-called al-Kani and that of Salah al-Mirghani committed this massacre and what resulted from this incident of broad targeting of citizens in the Tarhuna region especially in the Suk al-Ahad and Fam Milgha areas under the eyes and ears of the power-usurping government of the Capital Tripoli.

In our opinion, this incident constitutes a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949 and falls within paragraph (a), point 2, of Article 8 (war crimes) in Part 2 of Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which require your intervention to bring it before the International Criminal Court.

Thus, we wanted to address you to take a serious stance befitting the UN principles and in line with resolutions 1970 and 1973 related to the protection of civilians, cessation of hostilities and harming them.

Please accept our appreciation and respect
